In order to be considered for Penn need-based financial aid, you must submit all of the following information by the dates listed.
Submit the Free Application for Federal Student AID (FAFSA) online to the U.S. Department of Education. We suggest using the IRS data retrieval tool for accuracy.
The 2024-2025 FAFSA will be available in December 2023. If you are admitted to Penn, Student Financial Aid will provide you with an estimated financial aid award upon completion/submission of all other application requirements on your checklist. Domestic financial aid applicants will be required to submit the FAFSA as soon as it becomes available. Your final financial aid award letter will include any federal aid eligibility.
Penn's Federal School Code is 003378.
Submit online to The College Board. Note that your Social Security Number is required.
The 2024-2025 CSS Profile is available beginning October 1, 2023.
Penn’s CSS code is 2933.
If you have already completed the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile, your financial aid checklist may appear to be missing this application for a brief period while it is being processed. In early November, your CSS Profile will be sent to Student Financial Aid and your checklist will be updated.
Note: Financial aid information is required from both biological parents to determine a student's financial aid award. If your parents are unmarried, divorced, or separated, it is very important that you follow the directions below, as your application will not be considered complete until you submit information about your parents.
- If your parents are unmarried but you all live in the same household, you can fill out the CSS Profile and list them as Parent 1 and Parent 2
- If your parents are divorced or separated, your non-custodial parent must submit the online Non-Custodial Profile using the login ID and password that will be emailed to you when you complete the CSS Profile. Your non-custodial parent is the parent you live with for less than 50% of the time.
- If you are having challenges collecting your non-custodial parent's application requirements, then you may submit a petition to have these requirements waived. Submitting a petition does not guarantee it will be approved, and you may be asked for more information. Requests based solely on your non-custodial parent's unwillingness to contribute or submit documents do not qualify for a waiver. If your petition is denied, your non-custodial parent's financial information will be a required component of your financial aid application every year you apply for need-based aid.
Submit parent 2022 federal income tax returns, including all schedules, pages and W-2 forms, to Student Financial Services. If either of your parents are self-employed or own a business, you'll also need to provide the following relevant tax information:
For a sole proprietorship, submit Schedule C
For rental income, submit Schedule E, Page 1
For a partnership, submit Form 1065 and include Schedule K-1 and all attachments
For an S corporation, submit Form 1120-S and include Schedule K-1 and all attachments
For a C corporation, submit tax Form 1120 and include all schedules and attachments
Note: Don't file taxes? You still need to submit a Non-Tax Filer Form confirming your non-filer status or your application will remain incomplete.
Please send your tax returns directly to SFA, as Penn does not participate in CSS/IDOC Services.
To ensure the privacy of your information, please do not submit documents via email.
