This page provides information concerning degree conferrals, diploma processing, and graduation ceremonies.
- The University of Pennsylvania awards a wide range of degrees at the undergraduate, graduate, professional, and doctoral level. Several schools also offer certificate programs. For information about any of the degree programs offered across Penn’s 12 schools, review this searchable listing of Academic Programs.
- Degrees and certificates are awarded in May, August, and December. The University holds one Commencement ceremony every May. Visit the Office of the University Secretary's website for dates and more information.
- May graduates must submit a graduation application by March 1st to ensure their names are printed in the university's Commencement program.
- Students who opt-out of FERPA Directory Information will not have their names printed in the Commencement program.
Degrees are conferred three times a year in May, August, and December. The degree checkout process can take up to 30 days from the end of the term to complete as schools verify all requirements have been met. Graduating students, please contact your academic advisor or program manager directly for questions concerning the timing of your degree conferral.

- Students can view their degree(s) awarded and grades on their unofficial transcripts via Path@Penn. Degree conferral can be seen under the Degree Awarded section on the unofficial transcripts.
- Students may request a degree verification letter from the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) once their degree(s) have been officially conferred and recorded on their student record. Information on how to request a degree verification letter on the Request Verification Letter page.
- Information for third-party verifiers requesting the degree information of a Penn alum can be found on the Third Party Verification Requests page.
Diplomas are issued three times each year (May, August, and December).
- The diplomas of May graduates are expected to be mailed in late July.
- The diplomas of August graduates are expected to be mailed in mid-October.
- The diplomas of December graduates are expected to be mailed in mid-March.

The University of Pennsylvania holds one Commencement ceremony every May. Candidates for degrees in May, as well as graduates who completed degree requirements in August or December prior to the May ceremony, are invited to march in the procession and attend the Commencement ceremony.
